  2.                 !Chopper - Beta Test version 0.05

  5. The complete !Chopper package consistes of four separate programs, two
  6. Acorn applications !Chopper and !Joiner and two DOS programs SPLIT.EXE
  7. and SPLICE.EXE. Thses programs must not be distributed spearately or
  8. without this file except where !Joiner or SPLICE.EXE are placed on a set
  9. of discs containing a previousely split file by a REGISTERED user of the
  10. !Chopper package. All references to !Choppper may therefore apply either
  11. to the individual program or the complete package according to context.
  12.  
  13. The !Chopper package performs a very simple task - it chops up large
  14. files on a hard disc into chunks big enough to fit onto a floppy, and
  15. can then join the chunks back together again. The main idea of this is
  16. to let you transfer large files between computers, including
  17. transferring big files between Acorn Archimedes computers and PCs.
  18.  
  19. It is also ideal for PD Libraries, etc. to use for distribution of large
  20. files (Acorn Replay movies etc.) since the !Joiner application can be
  21. distributed by a registered user with the split files, although there
  22. are some restrictions and further licence conditions for commercial use.

  24. The Chopper package is released as 'Beta Test Shareware', which means
  25. that it is Shareware, NOT Public Domain. For a short period I am
  26. offering free registration, at the end of this time I shall charge a
  27. registration fee as yet to be determined.
  28.  
  29. Because !Chopper is still under development I do not want it to be too
  30. widely distributed until it has been improved. Copying is therefore
  31. subject to the following conditions -
  32.  
  33. 1. The program must not be distributed under any circumstances by ANYONE
  34.    other than a private individual GIVING a copy to a friend. This means
  35.    that it must not be posted on any BBS, PD Library, or any other
  36.    public access distribution system without my express permission.
  37.  
  38.    If you do control any such system and would like to distribute
  39.    !Chopper you MUST contact me first to ask for permission. By the time
  40.    the program reaches you it will probably be much improved over the
  41.    current version.
  42.  
  43. 2. You may use !Chopper for a trial period of no more than FOURTEEN
  44.    DAYS. At the end of this time you must contact me to Register. This
  45.    is exactly like Shareware, but there is NO FEE at this stage. Use
  46.    after this period will be a breech of copyright, and is punishable in
  47.    exactly the same way as any other software piracy.
  48.  
  49.    This offer is open for FOUR MONTHS from the date of release, ie.
  50.    until end September 1996. Free registration is offered as an
  51.    incentive for people to give me feedback on the program. If you
  52.    write, enclose a blank disc, a return stamp and self addressed label
  53.    and I will send the latest version. If you take the trouble to
  54.    include bug reports, (sensible) suggestions for improvements, etc.
  55.    then I will (at my discretion) treat you as if you had paid a full
  56.    registration fee and you will be entitled to all the benefits this
  57.    will bring, including your own Registration ID file to disable the
  58.    start-up  banner and the right to use any future version without
  59.    restriction.

  61.    At my discretion I may be prepared to respond to email in this way and
  62.    to reply by the same method with a copy of the latest version.

  64. 3. Under no circumstances must any version of !Chopper which does not
  65.    display a start-up banner be distributed. If you have a registered
  66.    version this means that you MUST remove the Chop_Reg file BEFORE you
  67.    pass on a copy. This file is for the personal use of a registered
  68.    user ONLY, and must not be given to any third party.
  69.  
  70. 4. Except where a Registered user places a copy of !Joiner or SPLICE.EXE
  71.    on a set of discs containing a split file no part of !Chopper may be
  72.    distributed by ANYONE separate from the entire !Chopper package. This
  73.    consists of !Chopper, !Joiner, SPLIT.EXE, SPLICE.EXE and the
  74.    introductory Read Me file. All applications must ALWAYS include all
  75.    their original documentation and copyright messages.

  77. 5. If you intend to use !Chopper to split up files for distribution by
  78.    any commercial organisation or where any fee is charged for the
  79.    service, whether in money or otherwise, then you MUST obtain a
  80.    licence before doing so. PD libraries and other organisations who
  81.    charge low fees for distribution will normally be granted this
  82.    licence for a single registration fee, but I reserve the right to
  83.    charge an additional fee where I deem it appropriate. Distributing
  84.    !Joiner or SPLICE.EXE in this way without such a Licence is outside
  85.    the normal licence terms.

  87. 7. It is understood that you use !Chopper entirely at your own risk
